Alan Roubik

Born in Los Angeles, California on January 25, 1966, Alan's parents discovered his natural ability to listen to a song and play it by ear on his small electric organ keyboard at three years of age.  They were unable to find a teacher willing to instruct a three year old, and they didn't have much room in their apartment for a large piano, so they waited until they moved to their new home.  Alan was 9 years old when they purchased a new baby grand piano and found a piano teacher near their home.

Music remained a hobby until a chance meeting with the legendary producer and artist manager, Joe Gottfried, who told Alan after listening to three original compositions that, “You need to be in this business!”  Mentored by Joe, Alan established Roubik Records in 1992 as a launching pad for his own music.  His first recording, entitled "Promises" was a hit on Contemporary Jazz and Adult Contemporary radio stations in the US and abroad.  The popularity of this romantic record lead to the production of the music video "Promises," which regularly aired on such programs such as MTV Asia, Star TV, MOR Music and PBS.  Filmed in 35mm, respected director John Landis served as associate producer and brought with him the same team that filmed pop-star Michael Jackson's music videos.

In 1996, Alan began producing the first of the Music For Your Heart series of CDs, which remains one of the most successful "healing music" recordings ever produced, now included in the National Archives of Japan.  Scientifically tested and endorsed by an independent research laboratory in Tokyo lead by best-selling author Masaru Emoto, Alan’s music is said to have the most healing properties of any modern music. His music is used and recommended by doctors, professional athletes and trainers, fitness and yoga instructors, as well as spiritual healers.

Alan continued to compose, produce and license music for television and film, and is currently recording a new series of music yet to be titled, including more originals as well as classical and popular favorites.

"I was served grapes by Dr. Emoto's staff on one of my visits to Japan, and was told that the vineyard had played my music throughout the year.  The result was incredible:  Larger, sweeter tasting grapes!  And then I was told that cows were producing more milk when my music was played at ranches.  The real kicker was when a fan came up to me and told me that this car ran smoother when he played my music really loud! :)   -Alan

Who was Joe Gottfried?  He discovered and managed some of the most popular recording artists in the 70's and 80's, including Toto, The Carpenters, Fleetwood Mac and Rick Springfield.  He was also founder and president of Sound City Recording Studio in Van Nuys, California, where many of the big hit records were recorded (Elton John, Metallica, Neil Young, Grateful Dead, Nirvana, Tom Petty).  Joe passed away in 1991, before he and Alan had a chance to produce any songs together.

At the age of 16, Alan sustained severe damage to the ulnar nerve in his right arm, making it nearly impossible to move his fingers. Not only immobility, but tremendous pain prevented Alan from competing.  Unable to hold a fork or spoon in his right hand, doctors suggested surgery, but Alan refused.    He was determined to continue playing the piano, and he began to focus on creating compositions that suited his limited hand movements.  Unbeknownst to Alan, he had been utilizing one form of music therapy that would eventually strengthen his hand and allow him full mobility to perform again.  Ironically, Alan would later become most well known for his music therapy recordings.

Germany and the Secret Genocide film score

Of the many projects Alan has taken on, he remains most grateful for the opportunity to have worked with producer / director Dr. J. Michael Hagopian, composing and performing original music for his film Germany and the Secret Genocide, which has since won many awards including First Place Golden Camera Award in the History Category from the U.S. International Film and Video Festival, the largest festival of its kind specializing in documentary, informational and industrial films. In addition, Germany and the Secret Genocide was one of 7 productions selected from 1500 submissions from 27 countries to be nominated for the Grand Prix. The film also tied for first place at the Athens (Ohio) International Film Festival.  http://armenianfilm.org

Education & Background

Alan graduated from California State University, Los Angeles, in 1989, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration / Administrative Management.  Until then, music was only a hobby.  Just prior to graduating, however, Alan was encouraged to pursue music as a career by producer Joe Gottfried (producer/manager of Toto, Fleetwood Mac, The Carpenters, Rick Springfield, and many more).

Alan studied and practiced Martial Arts for many years.  While in High School, he was on two Karate demonstration teams, trained with members of the US Olympic Karate Team, and taught martial arts and gymnastics after school.  Alan primarily practiced Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido, but also studied Judo and Kung Fu.
